Gili Islands

Gili means tiny island in local language, Sasak. There are some small islands in Lombok. In these Gilis, there is no motorcycles and car. Only bicycles and local transportations using horse, called cidomo.

The 4 most popular Gilis:

Gili Trawangan

Gili Trawangan is the biggest among 3 Gilis in the northern west of Lombok Island. Gili Trawangan is famous for its parties and has a lot of bungalows, hotels, guest houses, etc. It’s the farthest compared to Gili Air and Gili Meno.

Gili Air

Gili Air is the closest island to the main Lombok Island. Some people say that the best snorkeling spot is located near Gili Air.

Gili Meno

Gili Meno has a bird park that distinct it from two others. It sandwiches between Gili Air and Gili Trawangan.

 

Note: for transportation in these 3 Gilis you can use the boat that departed when there’s enough passenger. If you want to snorkel to these 3 Gilis, you need to pay IDR 100,000 (6 EUR) using public boat. If you go in group, you can consider charter boat. Discuss the price with the provider once you reach any of the 3 Gilis.

 

Gili Nanggu

Another Gili island that is popular is Gili Nanggu. It’s located far away from the above 3 Gilis. This Gili is located at the southern part of Lombok Island. Here, you don’t need to swim too far or hire boat because you can enjoy the beauty of the fish and coral easily.
